La Nueva Posada is one of the nicest bed and breakfast Hotels in Ajijic. The Eager family moved here from Canada in 1976 and Morley Eager ran the Posada Ajijic for many years. His portrait can be seen on the garden wall of La Nueva Posada, designed and built by Morley’s son, Michael. This intimate and gracious hotel has 19 suites on three levels, some with spectacular views of the lake.

It is located at the end of Donato Guerra Street on the Chapala lakeshore and all the taxi drivers know where it is. Since it opened, it has been a focus for community events. This is in the heart of Ajijic, so walking around town is not a problem.

To me, walking into the lobby of the hotel is like stepping into a castle. The friendly staff are always making new flower arrangements and decorating it for holidays. Michael’s mother, Judy Eager, is an artist and some of her beautiful paintings line the wall as you go up the stairs to the rooms.

The dining room is gracious. It has a beautiful view of the lake. I have spent a lot of time at a Nueva Posada. My best friend, Anita, lived there. We ate many breakfasts, lunches and dinners in the garden under the trees.

On Saturday nights, a group comes in and plays romantic Mexican music. Anita and I always made a point of being there at that time. It’s a beautiful way to spend the evening.

The food is delicious; continental cuisine and traditional Mexican dishes. The breakfasts are generous and are included in the room price.

I have seen several weddings in the garden. I have seen birthdays, and many other special occasions celebrated there. I have been attending one of the the writers’ groups. It meets there on Friday mornings, twice a month, and most of us linger there for lunch.

I have also witnessed a funeral. After the gathering of the loved ones of the man who passed away, they put his urn in a boat with his two grown sons and a mariachi singer. They went out onto the lake and spread the man’s ashes. The sons hadn’t been to Ajijic before their father’s death and were surprised at how beautiful it is here. They loved Ajijic. I think they regretted that they hadn’t realized what a good life their father had lived in this area.

My friend eventually moved across the street into the garden apartments. She pays by the month now and she is happy there. The apartments are are quiet and beautiful.

She has her own private garden. Daily maid service takes care of all her linens and paper products. There is laundry service available or she can do her own with an on-site laundry room.

There is also a swimming pool available on the premises.
